PARTICLE METHOD:

This module includes enhanced material point (MPM) and pure particle method (PPM). Each material is discretized into a mesh of Lagrangian material points. The material points carry the state variables such as mass, velocity, stress, and strain with them. An Eulerian background mesh is used as a computational pad to
assist in the update of the state of material points. This module directly solves the fluid, structure or fluid- structure interactions using a unified set of governing equations with the exception of different constitutive laws being used for different kinds of materials (i.e. fluid and structure materials). This novel method avoids the time-consuming grid generation for complex geometries and mathematically solving the fluid and structure compatibility as well as time-synchronization problems that are typically encountered by standard CFD/CSD coupling approaches for fluid-structure interaction, leading to the best accuracy and computational efficiency achievable. More importantly, the particle-based method allows for computing the geometrically nonlinear structure dynamics (i.e. large structure/control surface deformations

and/or motions)in the natural and efficient way because particles can freely move. They are innovative approaches that offer significant more advantages than conventional methods.
